Tír na mBláth Annual General Membership Meeting

Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 3pm, Tír na mBláth will hold its Annual General Membership Meeting.  The principal functions of the Annual General Meeting shall be the election of Officers for the coming year and consideration of Branch Financial Statement.  Featured this year, at our Annual General Membership Meeting, J.P. Sexton (author of; “The Big Yank – Memoir of a Boy Growing Up Irish”) will hold a discussion on the New York Times Bestseller; “The Immortal Irishman,” by Timothy Egan.

The book tells the true-life story of Thomas Francis Meagher, an Irish Revolutionary, who was banished by the British to Tasmania for life, after leading a failed uprising against British rule in Ireland. Tasmania could not hold the wild Irishman, however and a few years later he was in New York, leading the Irish Brigade in the Civil War.

Meagher’s entrance into American life as a civilian after the war, was no less hectic than his military time on civil war battlefields, or escaping from penal colonies, on the other side of the world. His attempt to build a “New Ireland” in rugged Montana, was to lead to his disappearance. According to the Missoulian, Meagher’s vanishing could be described as “the greatest of Montana mysteries.”

Timothy Egan, is a Pulitzer prize-winning reporter, a New York Times columnist and the author of seven books. He is a past winner of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for excellence in nonfiction.

This meeting will be followed by the trad seisiún with musicians jumping in for some good craic.  As always, Tim Finnegans will also feature a tasty Sunday dinner and libations.
