Summer Fiddle Workshop

Girl Fiddler

The Tir na mBlath Summer Fiddle Workshop teaches students of all ages how to play violin in the Irish tradition. Classes held Sunday afternoons at 3pm for six weeks over the summer of 2013 (June 16, 23, 30, July 14, 21, and 28). Students will also participate in a traditional slow seísiún with Irish musicians immediately following the lesson. Students must have their own violin and parents must accompany students under 18 years of age. Only $20 per lesson payable at the door. Twenty percent discount for Tir na mBlah members.

In keeping with the Irish tradition, students will be taught fiddle tunes by ear.  For those who may rely on standard notation, music sheets may be requested at the close of class.  Classes are for those students who have played the violin or taken some lessons but who may have limited skills on the instrument.  The workshop instructor takes time to ensure that proper Irish bowing technique is followed and that each phrase of the tune is well learned before moving on to the next.  Students with adequate bowing technique will be introduced to various left-hand techniques, including cuts and rolls, which are prevalent in Irish music.  For more information, please click on Summer Fiddle Workshop.
